Description
Summary:Floats is a vital part of amphibious plane because it has to be able to absorb hydrodynamic impact when the plane lands on the water. Sandwich composite panels has been used as an impact-absorbing structure, but the failure mechanism of this panel has a significant effect on its dynamic response. Hence, it is needed to do a study to conduct a numerical simulation of sandwich composite panel damage under hydrodynamic load. Numerical simulation in this study is done to observe sandwich composite panels damage mechanism using Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) method in finite element modelling. This method combines Lagrangian and Eulerian frame into one model. Lagrangian frame is used to observe the deformation of the structure, while eulerian frame is used to observe the fluid motion. By combining these methods, the analysis on the deformation of the structure and fluid motion can be done at once. The output of this numerical simulation is hydrodynamic force data, damage profile on skin, and delamination profile. The result of this numerical simulation is then compared to the result of experiment done by Hassoon. By comparison, the numerical simulation result of this study is close to the experimental result done by Hassoon. This shows that the modelling and parameters that used in this numerical simulation can represent the sandwich composite panel damage mechanism in real-life condition.
