CORRELATION ANALYSIS OF AIR CONNECTIVITY AND DEVELOPMENT INDICATOR OF ARCHIPELAGIC PROVINCE

The development conditions of the archipelagic province are currently experiencing a development gap because the management of archipelagic province is still the same as land-based provinces. Therefore, archipelagic province needs accelerated development strategy. The government's efforts are to encourage inter-island connectivity through the acceleration of airport infrastructure development. Air connectivity is a link between one airport and another at air transportation network. The purpose of this study is to assess the connectivity index and formulating development indicators, and analyzing the correlation between air connectivity and the development indicators of the archipelagic province. The method used is graph theory-based and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The air connectivity index is calculated using the main airport data and flight routes of the archipelagic province. PCA is used to simplify development indicators and to find out the correlation between air connectivity and development indicators. The results show that air connectivity in Indonesia has not been spread evenly. This study also produced 7 out of 12 indicators that could represent development and showed that there was a positive correlation between air connectivity and development indicators. The acceleration of development needs to be prioritized for NTB, NTT, Sulawesi Barat, Sulawesi Tengah, Maluku, dan Papua Barat Province.
