Summary: | Rotating machineries are commonly used equipment in industry. This type of machine
often causes high vibration during its operation due to dynamic forces. The vibration can be
transmitted to other machines located nearby and to the surrounding environment. Isolation
vibration system is used to reduce the transmitted vibration. Vibration transmissibility that
occurred can be studied through modeling and testing on a simple system. Thus, this research
aims to study the vibration transmissibility of a three degrees-of-freedom system.
The research begins by derivating the equation of vibration transmissibility and the
spring stiffness criteria to satisfy a certain value of transmissibility. The research is then
continued by choosing a case study in a form of a simple three degrees-of-freedom system
then identify its dynamic parameters, namely mass, spring stiffness, and damping
coefficients. These parameters are used to construct spring stiffness graphs and vibration
transmissibility curves. Then, a vibration transmissibility testing is carried out using a shaker
and an unbalanced rotating mass to validate the model.
In this research, the equations of vibration transmissibility and spring stiffness criteria
can be used to predict the spring stiffness needed so that the value of vibration transmissibility
is less than certain value. In addition to the case study, system modeling produces vibration
transmissibility graphs that is close to those obtained from the experiment.
