INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/43880 Fulfillment of energy in Indonesia still depends on the result of conventional oil and gas drilling. On the other hand, Indonesia also has a potential on shale gas more than conventional gas reserve. One of reservoirs and source rocks that has a potential to produce shale gas is Bayah Formation in Bayah and its surrounding areas, Lebak Regency, Banten Province southern West Java. Therefore, this study is conducted to determine the deposition, distribution, and shale feasibility to find out the potential shale of Bayah Formation as shale gas reservoir. In this research, data consist of field data, geochemical data, and petrographic data. Based on field analysis, the Bayah Formation can be divided into three units from old to young Sandstone Unit, Shale Sandstone Unit, and Conglomerate Unit. Shale of Bayah Formation located on Shale Sandstone Unit consists of shally mudstone and shally siltstone lithologies, which is deposited on floodplains from meandering Rivers. Based on stratigraphic correlations, shale of Bayah Formation can be divided into three parts consisting from old to young interval A with a thickness of 4 - 5 m, interval B with a thickness of 22 - 23 m, and interval C with a thickness of 3 -5 m with a fairly wide distribution. Based on geochemical analysis, shale of the Bayah Formation has a TOC content varying from 0,54% - 14,18% which can be categorized fair to extraordinary with type III kerogen that produce gas and type IV kerogen that can’t produce hydrocarbons, and has entered the early stage of maturity. Based on petrographic analysis, Brittleness Index varies from 41,5% - 60% which is included in the less brittle until brittle category, indicates that it is good enough for hydraulic fracturing. Based on the criteria of richness, kerogen type, maturity, and brittleness index it is concluded that shale of Bayah Formation has proven to be shale gas reservoir. text |
