X is a fertilizer industry which has implemented K3 representative training since 2015. This program represents as a form of company’s commitment to improve occupational, health and safety of its employees through a training program. However, accidents still occur at PT. X every year. Study states the cause of industrial accidents is dominated by unsafe act, hence it is necessary to study the intention of workers’ safety behavior and some factors influencing it, such as safety knowledge and safety climate at PT.X. A total of 239 workers consisting of 185 trained workers and 54 non-trained workers participated in this study. NOSACQ-50 questionnaire was used to measure safety climate while safety knowledge was measured by a questionnaire corresponding to the training’s syllabus and material. Meanwhile, intention of safety behavior was measured using a questionnaire adopted from previous studies and adjusted to the safety regulations of PT.X. The result shows both workers’ groups have the same perception of safety climate which only 3 dimensions that have a fairly low level (<3,00) and needs immediate improvement. Other result shows that trained workers have higher score in safety knowledge. However, there is no difference in the intention of safety behavior between both worker groups. The findings also confirm a simultaneous and partial influence between safety knowledge and safety climate towards safety behavior intention measured from workers’ safety compliance and participation. Analysis of accident rate shows the number of accidents at medical treatment level decreased by 64% in last 5 years. This indicates that safety training becomes one of the potential factors that can reduce accident rates at PT. X. Middle level management has a significant role in improving safety conditions as an intermediary between top management and workers. text |
