STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT OF WONOREJO MANGROVE ECOTOURISM SURABAYA

Surabaya as the capital city of East Java Province, since 2005 has developed as tourism city by revitalized its tourism sector. Mangrove Ecotourism is one of nature destination which located in the coastal of East Surabaya,however,big population of Surabaya not only make conversion of mangrove forest to be settlement area became increase but also bringing the negative impact of environment like intrusion and abrasion in the coastal of East Surabaya (Pamurbaya). In the other hand, the big population give an opportunity to develop tourism sector in urban area. In fact, nature destination is still lacking in Surabaya, thus give the government to initiate tourism development in nature destination. As nature destination, Mangrove Wonorejo then developed to be an ecotourism area since it was an important bird area with its abundant flora and fauna. Moreover, the development of Wonorejo Mangrove Ecotourism is a step for government to actualize Surabaya Vision 2016- 2021 as an Ecologist City. According to number of visitor in Wonorejo Mangrove Ecotourism, there were a dynamic number of visitor with a declining tren of visitor for 4 years since 2015-2018. Condition of declining performance in this tourism area, needed to identify its stage of development, so in the future the development will be come much more better. The aim of this research is to explain the stage that has been accomplished in this tourism area and its problem during the development. By using qualitative research method, it can be summarized that there is only one criteria that has been applied in this area. According to the objective in identifying stage development, Wonorejo Mangrove Ecotourism has been on stage development. The problem that occurred in this stage are number of visitor that higher than its local population, the limitation of facility and accessibility, involvement of local people is stil lacking, only in economic aspect while the involvement in planning and developing the tourism area is still unknown and for aspect promotion, it has been proceed quite intensive by using online and offline media.
