Description
Summary:Serat Sindujoyo is an ancient manuscript from Gresik, East Java which contains illustrated stories and scripts in the form of pegon script (Arabic alphabet for Javanese writing) and Macapat songs (traditional Javanese poetry) with images of the post-1636 East Java coast in Girische or Grissee which is now known as Gresik. Serat Sindujoyo tells the story of Sindujoyo's life as a figure of scholar & community leader who are very meritorious and respected by the people of Gresik especially in the area of Roomo, Kroman and Lumpur until the content of the manuscript influences cultural values in the life systems of local indigenous folk. The lack of focus in learning and conservation on Serat Sindujoyo can add the sacristy of the manuscript, vanish the value of good teaching of the artifact and reduce the motivation of generations of culture enthusiast to understand the flow of cultural treasures so that fundamental customs can change dynamically and without control. This led the author to design an experimental visual communication media by reconstructing coastal customs both pure and adaptation in Serat Sindujoyo from scientific methodology and design approaches to improve insight and thinking ability of author as well as society that is accompanied by a spirit of cultural affection as a complete and strong identity, to reintroduce the glory of the Coastal customs and to strengthen the pride of the local wisdom of Gresik. With the precious values that are rooted in tradition, religion, art and recitation that is in accordance with the spirit of the era, there are areas that are indeed designated as creative spaces to be reinterpreted with new media for the preservation of an area's intellectual property and the repertoire of the archipelago's cultural heritage.
