Soursop leaf (Annona muricata L.) and avocado seed (Persea americana Mill.) traditionally could reduce blood lipid levels. This research aimed to determine hypercholesterolemia preventive activity, either single or combination of soursop leaf and avocado seed extract on male Wistar rats. Method used in this research was by giving extract followed by the hypercholesterolemia induction products. Rats were divided into seven groups: negative control (only given base of the extract), positive control (only given induction without any treatment), simvastatin as control drug, soursop leaf extract 150 mg/kg bw, avocado seed extract 150 mg/kg bw, combination of soursop leaf and avocado seed extract 75-75 mg/kg bw and 150-150 mg/kg bw. The duration of this research was 8 weeks and blood serum was examined on 0th, 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th weeks. Blood serum was used to examine total cholesterol, triglycerides, and HDL level, also count LDL and atheroma index level. Based on the research result, soursop leaf 150 mg/kg bw could prevent total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and atheroma index increment compared to positive control. On the other side, avocado seed extract could lower hypercholesterolemia faster than soursop leaf. Soursop leaf had lesser activity to prevent increment of triglycerides, LDL, and atheroma index compared to avocado seed. On extract combination, 150- 150 mg/kg bw dose had better activities compared to single extract to prevent triglyceride and total cholesterol increment. On the other side, 75-75 mg/kg bw had better activity to prevent LDL and atheroma increment, also HDL decrement. So, soursop leaf and avocado seed extract had futher potential to be developed as antidyslipidemia agent. text |
