Food security of an area, particularly urban as a food consumption area, is inseparable from wider food system scale. As part of the West Java Province region which is the second highest rice producer in Indonesia, Bandung City as an urban area that has a finite agricultural land to feed the population is classified as a food secure urban area supplied 97% of the total rice consumption needs from other regions. Most of the rice consumption needs fulfilled from other regions production indicates that Bandung City is a part of a wider system, namely the regional food system in West Java Province. This study aims to examine the contribution fo the regional food system implemented in West Java Province in achieving Bandung City’s food security. Study shows that the implementation of regional food system in West Java Province is moderately ideal where there is still decrease in planted area and land productivity in several years and government intervention in the inter-regional food distribution process still unavailable. The city of Bandung is also marginally food secure where the food utility and stability still not met the indicator which affected by local factors such as market mechanism and the community dietary choices. In despite of West Java Province’s moderately ideal regional food system implementation, the system is able to contribute to the food supply security of rice in the city of Bandung text |
