Whereas geotourism has a fundamental principle as a sustainable concept of tourism that have to enhance the social and economic level of the community around the tourism area, so the community have to be the main actor of the tourism development around TWA Kamojang, and not the investor from the outside or the private sector. This study examines the participation of local community on the development of Kamojang geothermal geotourism zone with qualitative research method. The data were collected using the in-depth interview with 12 interviewees. The interview sampling used the method of purposive sampling and snowball model. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed using the methods of content analysis, coding analysis, and qualitative descriptive analysis. This study identifies the charateristics of mountain landscape in Kamojang geothermal geotourism zone, forms of local community participation in Kamojang geotourism development, and the degree of local community participation in Kamojang geotourism development. The mountain characteristics were identified by analyzing diversity, marginality, inaccessibility, fragility, and niche of the Kamojang geotourism zone. The degree of local community participation was analyzed using Tosun’s community participation typology for tourism development which consists of three degrees, that is spontaneous, induced, and coercive participation. The result of the study shows that Kamojang geotourism zone has all the mountain landscape characteristics and some of them affect the forms and degrees of local community participation in the area. The forms of participation include participation by providng goods or participation by providing services. The degrees of participation in Kamojang geotourism zone is induced participation, with some of the characteristics tend to be a more better participation, that is spontaneous participation. text
