Peels of ‘pisang kepok’ (Musa (ABB group) ‘Bluggoe’) contain phenolic and flavonoid compounds such as catechin, gallocatechin, and epicatechin which can be used for natural antioxidant. In this research, optimization of W/O cream formulation contained peels extract of ‘pisang kepok’ has been started with optimization of base and quantity of extract which has been added to base consisted of a combination of cetomacrogol 1000 with cetostearyl alcohol and Tween 80 with Span 40. The best formulation was chosen based on some parameters, i.e. physical appearance, homogenity, consistency, physical stability, and free radicals scavenging activities. The cream was evaluated on its antioxidant activity test, accelerated stability test, and dermal irritation test. Antioxidant activity test of extract and cream were done by determining IC50 of DPPH scavenging activities. Accelerated stability test of extract and cream were done at 40oC for 28 days. The best formulation for a W/O cream contained peels extract of ‘pisang kepok’ 15%, VCO 55%, cetomacrogol 1000 1.6%, cetostearyl alcohol 6.4%, methyl paraben 0.18%, propyl paraben 0.02%, propylene glycol 5%, and aquadest 16.8%. The DPPH IC50 of the extract was 9.58 ± 0,78 ppm and the DPPH IC50 of the cream was 12.42 ± 0.03 ppm. The results of accelerated stability test showed that IC50 of DPPH by extract was more stable on cream. The dermal irritation test showed that the cream base and the cream containing extract do not irritate the skin. text
