The objective of this research was to determine characteristic of kappa caragenan nanocomposite with the addition sodium bentonite. The experiment began with determining the method of swelling sodium bentonite, determination of Minimum Film Forming Temperature (MFT) at 25o , 30o , 40o and 50o C, determination of plasticizer was perfomed on PEG 6000, PEG 600, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and glycerin. The nanocomposite film was made by film casting method with concentration of 0,2,3,4 and 5% sodium bentonite. The film was evaluated with solubility test, water vapor permeability coefficient and film mechanical. The film which gave the best physical and mechanical properties of vapor permeability coefficient was used to coat the sodium diclofenac tablet and tested the release properties of the active substance. The results showed that MFT was 50o C and the coefficient of water vapor transimission rate of film containg plasticizer such as propylene glycol, PEG 6000, PEG 600, sorbitol and glycerin 10% were 2.48 ± 0.11; 4,635 ± 0.66; 6.07 ± 2.22; 3.44 ± 0.13; 3,864 ± 0.52 x 10- 3 g h- 1 cm- 1 mmHg- 1 . Respectively, film containing kappa carrageenan, 10% propylene glycol and 2% sodium bentonite gave the good result as water vapor permeability coefficient, % elongation, tensile strength and modulus were 2,48±0,11 x 10- 3 g h- 1 cm- 1 mmHg- 1 ; 2,27 ± 0,94%; 61,185 ± 1,12 MPa; 1923,18 ± 135,52 MPa. Respectively, dissolution test result showed, sodium diclofenac was retained in the acid medium and more than 80% (Q + 5%) sodium diclofenac was released in phosphate buffer medium pH 6,8±0,05 was 96.55 ± 6.15% in 180 minutes. Nanocomposite 2% was choosen as kappa caragenan nanocomposite formula. text
