Description
Summary:Plastic waste, especially low-value plastic waste such as film plastic, nonbiodegradable and nonoxodegradable; majority have not been taken by scavengers and are scattered everywhere, polluting the land, water and air environment. Efforts to handle it industrially need to be done so that its management to economically profitable, run independently and sustainably. One such effort is convert this low-value plastic waste through pyrolysis into fuel oil (gasoline) which is much needed by the community, by using energy from waste-to-energy (WTE) incineration of burnt-waste. The laboratory scale research has been successfully carried out at the Polymer and Membrane Technology Laboratory, Chemical Engineering ITB by Adrian (2012), and Paul Victor & Felicia Pardede (2014). Implementation of the results of the study on a pilot scale with a batch-process has been carried out in the village of Tinumpuk, Indramayu regency. In this study, a pilot plant pyrolysis system improvement is carried out with a semicontinuous-process at IPS MASARO - Cirebon regency; which includes activities: plastic refinery field trials, pyrolysis system performance evaluation, improvement recommendations, improvement actions, evaluation of improvement actions, and subsequent improvement actions, to obtain a pyrolysis system that runs-well. System performance parameters that run well are fulfillment of energy required for pyrolysis, time of pyrolysis speed, and % yield. Improvement of IPS MASARO - Cirebon Generation-1 pyrolysis system was carried out by replacing the design of incinerators, installing blower units, replacing scrubber-gas pipes, and improvement on Generation-2 is installing electric heaters to the pyrolysis reactor. Improvement of Generation-2 pyrolysis system results in an increase in reactor temperature for the pyrolysis reaction of plastic waste to 340-400oC. The calculation of the economic price of the IPS MASARO – Cirebon pyrolysis oil product with the heating element 5000 Watt to reach break even point is Rp 5.746.53 / Litre. Qualitative analysis of plastic waste type Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) produces oil products whose main compounds are heptane (C7H16) and octane (C8H18).
