Monitoring is needed to ensure the effectiveness of therapy and drug related problems (DRPs) is not occured. Therefore in this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of hypertension therapy, identify potential of DRPs and factors that affecting effectiveness of therapy. This was an observational-descriptive study conducted concurrently and cross sectional from January - March 2017. Number of sample in this study was calculated using Slovin formula. The effectiveness of the therapy was analyzed based on targeted blood pressure according to JNC VIII; identification of potential DRPs based on the predetermined criteria; and factors affecting effectiveness of therapy was identified through interview to patients. The effectiveness of hypertension therapy in prolanis patients (n = 176) approximately 66,48% and 45,53% in non prolanis patients (n = 1131). Potential DRPs identified were 23 cases of inappropriate drug selection in non prolanis patients; 12 cases and 2 cases of inappropriate dose in prolanis and non prolanis patients, respectively; 38 cases and 279 cases of potential drug interactions in prolanis and non prolanis patients, respectively. It could be concluded that in every three prescriptions have one potential DRP occurred. Factors that affecting the effectiveness of therapy in both prolanis and non prolanis patients were high sodium intake, unregular exercise, and low of adherence to therapy. text |
