Experimental Review of Refrigerant Mixture of R-32 and R-134a as an Alternative for R-22
R-22 is a common refrigerant that used in heat pump, air conditioner, and refrigeration machines. However, R-22 is a refrigerant that categorized as one of ozone depletion substance. The depletion of ozone layer will increase the intensity of ultraviolet that enters the surface of the earth. The...

However, R-22 is a refrigerant that categorized as one of ozone depletion substance. The depletion of ozone layer will increase the intensity of ultraviolet that enters the surface of the earth. The increasing ultraviolet intensity subsequently causing a severe consequent to all organism in the earth. Therefore, the usage of R-22 is now limited and eventually will be stopped. This research contains the result of performance and optimum charging mass testing of the mixture of R-32 and R-134a that more environment friendly than R-22 as an alternative replacement of R-22. This testing is executed without changing the component of the testing equipment. The testing equipment used in this research is a vapor compression refrigeration system using a compressor with a power rating of 0.75 hp and using water as a cooling media. Optimum charging mass of each refrigerant need to be discovered first befor doing the performance experiment. The performance experiment result shows that the mixture of R-32 and R- 134a has lower performance than R-22 that only reach 75% - 85% of R-22’s performance. However, the mixture of R-32 and R-134a shows a better optimum charging mass than R-22, resulting in 83,3% of optimum charging mass of R-22. text |

R-22 is a common refrigerant that used in heat pump, air conditioner, and
refrigeration machines. However, R-22 is a refrigerant that categorized as one of
ozone depletion substance. The depletion of ozone layer will increase the
intensity of ultraviolet that enters the surface of the earth. The increasing
ultraviolet intensity subsequently causing a severe consequent to all organism in
the earth. Therefore, the usage of R-22 is now limited and eventually will be
stopped.
This research contains the result of performance and optimum charging
mass testing of the mixture of R-32 and R-134a that more environment friendly
than R-22 as an alternative replacement of R-22. This testing is executed without
changing the component of the testing equipment. The testing equipment used in
this research is a vapor compression refrigeration system using a compressor with
a power rating of 0.75 hp and using water as a cooling media. Optimum charging
mass of each refrigerant need to be discovered first befor doing the performance
experiment.
The performance experiment result shows that the mixture of R-32 and R-
134a has lower performance than R-22 that only reach 75% - 85% of R-22’s
performance. However, the mixture of R-32 and R-134a shows a better optimum
charging mass than R-22, resulting in 83,3% of optimum charging mass of R-22. |
