Description
Summary:Many automotive manufacturers is developing electric power steering which is compact and efficient. Beside that, the use of 3-phase BLDC motor as power steering’s power assist unit is alse developing. The 3-phase BLDC motor is considered to be more efficient and compact for the same power used compared to the single phase motor. But, the system which is using 3-phase BLDC motor hasn’t implemented widely into the power steering system due to the lack of 3-phase phase motor control component. The purpose of this research is to design power steering system based on 3-phase BLDC motor and to make the ECU (Electronic Component Unit) of the steering system. The steps taken are setting up the torque sensor reader program, designing the driver and the control system of 3-phase BLDC motor, and testing the performance of Arduino-based steering system which is made. The performance of the electric power steering system which is made then tested by looking at the system response to the signal from the torque sensor. The test result provide us information that the BLDC motor is capable to rotate in the direction desired and with a fast response.
