Description
Summary:Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) is a proactive health care system for patients with chronic disease of National Health Insurance participants. One of the chronic diseases of concern is diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with dangerous complications, therefore it is necessary to control and manage the disease properly. Medication adherence is one of the important parameters in the management of diabetes mellitus. This study was conducted in Medika Antapani Health Care Center Bandung to determine the effect of Prolanis on medication adherence and to determine factors that affect it. Medication adherence assessment was performed with a validated questionnaire adaptation from Medication Compliance Questionnaire. Evaluation of medication adherence was performed in 75 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus which is divided into two groups, Prolanis with 38 patients and non Prolanis with 37 patients. The results showed that the level of medication adherence in the Prolanis was better than the non Prolanis, but the difference was not statistically significant. In Prolanis, number of patients that adherence in medication were 24 patients (63.16%), while in non Prolanis were 16 patients (43.24%). Based on the evaluation of factors affecting patient medication adherence, it was found that gender, age, educational level, duration of diabetes mellitus, number of antidiabetic drugs received, and the presence of drug side effects did not affect medication adherence in the Prolanis and non Prolanis. Another factor that may affect in both groups was activities or works that make patients too busy.
