ANALYSIS OF WASTE TRANSPORTATION ROUTE IN MALANG USING SHORTEST DISTANCE METHOD

Malang has a population of 851.298 in 2015 (BPS, 2015). This population had causes of waste generation that is increasing every day, around 595,90 tons. However only 504,92 waste ton that were transported to landfill. This means load factor in Malang were only served 84,73%. Waste transportation...

This population had causes of waste generation that is increasing every day, around 595,90 tons. However only 504,92 waste ton that were transported to landfill. This means load factor in Malang were only served 84,73%. Waste transportation problems comes from various factor. Malang has only just 68 TPS spread. The number of TPS does not commensurate with waste generation that comes every day. Another issues were the limited number of trucks. Malang only have 35 truck that capable make three trips per day. Limited number from trucks and TPS lead to bad situation for transporting waste. As a result, many waste were left behind in TPS. Therefore, this study will describe the waste management in the city of Malang both technical and non-technical aspect. After assess waste management system, the next step was to analyze and compare existing routes with alternative route based from shortest distance method and set plan for best scenario in waste transportation route. Waste transportation facilities in Malang consist of 18 units of dump trucks and 17 units arm roll truck. These waste existing route in Malang through a total of 2.097,45 km with a time reached 4.316,32 minutes. These alternative routes make times shorter, this affects on travel time and fuel consumption. This indicates that the existing routes can be optimized using network analysis, specially using shortest distance method. After that, this research was selection alternative waste transportation route by comparing the I rational scenario (addition TPS without the addition of a truck) and II rational scenario (addition of TPS and trucks). The result showed that the II rational scenario runs better than I rational scenario. Requirement for II rational scenarios for the waste facility includes 135 units of TPS and 58 trucks. Consecutive total distance, travel time and fuel consumption needed each day for II rational scenario were 3.281,32 km, 10.769,60 minutes and 349,63 liters per day. text
