Description
Summary:Retinyl palmitate (RP) is a retinoid family, which is an ester of retinol with palmitate functional group at the end of the chain. RP is commonly used in cosmetics as antioxidants and anti-wrinkle. Formulation of RP wa require careful consideration of heat, light and oxygen due to instability. This formulation where as a protective is require to prevent degradation of RP. Drug delivery strategies are well known for minimizing degradation is Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (NLC). This research aimed to develop a topical delivery system for protect RP from degradation, increase antioxidant activity and improve difusion in the true the skin. Materials for NLC were obtained using microemulsion technique is 4% PEG-8 beeswax as solid lipid, 4% isopropyl myristate as liquid lipid, 13% polysorbate 80 as surfactant and 10% sucrose stearate as cosurfactant. Characterization NLC ware evaluated using particle size measurement, polydispersity index, entrapment efficiency, in vitro diffusion testing using Franz diffusion cell, morphological characterization with Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and antioxidant activity using DPPH. Particle size of NLC-RP was 65,63±1,09 nm, polydispersity index of 0,323±0,068, entrapment efficiency of 94,55±0,761%. Penetration result showed that after 9 hours, liquid NLC-RP difusion the highest 52,575±4,37%, followed by NLC-RP in cream 36,36±1,46%, RP in cream 18,70±2,13% and RP in emulsion 18,22±1,499%. Physical and chemical stability test include concentration, pH and viscosity were store during 60 days at 25°C RH 65% and 40°C RH 75% and the results were NLC-RP there is no changed in this condition. NLC-RP in cream showed decrease consentration until 58,15% at 25°C RH 60% and 70,05% at 40°C RH 75% because of the cream base .
