Summary: | Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has an asset in the shape of land in Lembang whithin approximately 500 m of the Bosscha Observatory. For decades the area around the land and the observaroty does not reflect a research education area. Building a research center in that land is an attempt to maximize ITB’s assets in Lembang.
This Research center development will include Radio Astronomy and Instrumentation Laboratory, Optic Laboratory, Environment Remote Sensing Laboratory, Earth Science Laboratory, Sains Atmosphere Laboratory, and Data Services Laboratory. This Research Center will be built on the land with an area of 9,8 hectare. The issue of this project is the limited flat area in the project`s land. Available flat area will be placed for laboratory equipment such as radio telescopes and a weather station. The building design approach will be using the adaptive reuse method. The floor area of the existing building that can still be used is 1.041,6 m2. The new research building will be placed in an innercourt, which is an area that will be dug in the middle part of the existing building The design concept of the new research center is based on the notion `Bosscha 2.0`, which in a brief description is an upgaded research center with a more advanced version of the previous, which is Bosscha Observatory. Bosscha Observatory reflects a sophisticated architecture and technology in the early 20th century. This new reseach center would reflects an advanced and sophisticated architecture and technology of the 21st century or one hundred years from the initial version. |
