Summary: | The urban development of Banda Aceh is marked by the the change of its face, which is mainly
dominated by office buildings. Their presence is inseparable from the culture development and
architecture that flourishes in the life of Aceh people. The embodiment of office buildingis a
reflection of Aceh people’s interpretation to the association level and local cultural
identification. The objective of this researchis to reveal the main factors that influence Aceh
people’s understanding towards the identity of local architecture. This research is using
qualitative method. The data will be collected through an online survey to several people in Aceh.
The data obtained from the respondents will be analyzed using the content analysis (analysis of
text data) with open coding, axial coding and selective coding. As a result, there are four
categories of Aceh people’s perception to the local architecture identity of office buildings in
Aceh, such as Rumoh Aceh concept (implementation and structuring functionally), Rumoh Aceh
building (upper structure of rumoh Aceh, the structure of the central and the bottom part of rumoh
Aceh), Aceh cultural Identity (Islamic nature, meunasah culture and the Aceh traditional clothes
for men) and Visual characteristic (visible and invisible characteristics). The conclusion is, there
isa tendency for Aceh people to understand the local identity from the visual characteristics,
instead of the non-visual characteristics nor the meaning of the building itself. |
