Mental disorder is one of the most profound contributors to the loss of productive life time. Therefore, there should be an effort to optimize its therapy. Carbamazepine is a drug that is commonly used by mental disorder patients. It has a relatively narrow therapeutic index, 4-12 µg/mL, which leads to the need of therapeutic monitoring through determination of its concentration. Determination of carbamazepine plasma concentration was performed on 31 plasma samples obtained from the West Java Provincial Government Mental Hospital outpatients who received treatment with carbamazepine and agreed to participate in the study and signed an informed consent. Random sampling was conducted on 22 male patients and 9 female patients with carbamazepine therapy duration ranging from one week to 20 years and with age ranging from 12-77 years. All plasma samples were prepared in duplo dan were analyzed using high pressure liquid chromatography method with ultraviolet detector. The analytical method has previously been validated and was verified in this research. From 31 plasma samples analyzed, 22 of them were within the therapeutic concentration range, while the other nine were under therapeutic concentration range.
