Sriwedari known as one of the most famous heritage legacy in Surakarta, has a vital function as the people’s recreation facility and the city of Surakarta’s green public space based on Pakubuwono II’s (The King of Kasultanan Surakarta) masterplan. Divided into two zones: Sport Area and Cultural Area, Sriwedari grows into the centre of Wayang Orang Theatre. As time goes by, Sriwedari, specifically Sriwedari Cultural Area has lost its character. First and foremost, Wayang orang theatre, the most prominent features of Sriewdari Cultural Area, haven’t facilitated by decent Theatre and other outdoor performance spaces anymore. Additional buildings that defined today’s Sriwedari are not integrated by means of access towards the city as a component of urban fabric or with Sport Area that supposed to be seen as one whole district and physical characteristics that are now devided by fences and irregular building style based on each new function. The function of the whole Sriwedari itself as green public space is no more regarding the number of the trees and the accessibility. From the Problems found above, the idea to revitalize Sriwedari especially renewalll of the Wayang Orang Theatre came up, to create a whole better Cultural park that function as what it once purposed. The Design face its own challenge as Sriwedari cultural park itself has two significant heritage features that needed to be appreciated also the need to create not only new, but such facilities and new features for both Sriwedari Cultural Centre and the building that answer the need of performing art community especially Wayang Orang Sriwedari community in Surakarta and reconnect it function and orientation towards Keraton Surakarta.
