| Summary: | Growth and development of tourism in Indonesia indicate the tourism is an
important sector of the economic in Indonesia. Raja Ampat Islands are known as
marine tourism. Its number of tourists is increasing every year. There are some
issues in tourism activities of Raja Ampat Islands: the low involvement of the
community in tourism activities, some issues on environmental degradation; and
lack of infrastructures.
This study aims to propose a tourism development strategy based on the
preferences of the Raja Ampat Islands community. The objectives of this study
are to identify the perceptions and preferences of local communities to the impacts
of tourism development as well as the drafting of the tourism development
strategy of the Raja Ampat Islands.
The method used in the study are: descriptive method that describes the
characteristics of the potential of tourism and its development in Raja Ampat,
Importance Performance Analysis method that used to describe the perceptions
and preferences of community towards the development of tourism; as well as the
strategic environmental analysis method (IFAS-EFAS), mapping the position and
strategy of tourism development.
The study shows that tourism development in Raja Ampat Islands has a positive
effect in community but not fully correspond the expectations of community,
especially in the economic sector and the environment so that it needed strategies
in accordance with these condition. The other study result shows tourism
development in the Raja Ampat Islands in the position of the quadrant stability
which means that tourism development Raja Ampat Islands is currently in stable
condition and need of improvement which use and optimize all opportunities to
their potential and thus eliminate various problems (weakness) and threats.
Other recommendations are included improving infrastructures and transport
systems, improving of tourism facilities and utilities, improving of health,
education and waste management, improving infrastructure coordination among
the government, the preservation of the environment and increased insight and
knowledge of human resources in the field of tourism in Raja Ampat Islands. |
