PRODUCTION IMPROVEMENT PLANNING IN CATFISH FARMING THROUGH LEAN APPROACH: A CASE STUDY OF EMIR FISHERY INDUSTRY

Fishery industry is one of sector who supports Indonesia GDP. Growth of Indonesian GDP is also followed by growth in fishery industries. One of commodity in fishery industry who rapidly grow is catfish. Catfish farming have been existed in Indonesia for long time and have grow to fulfill increasing nation fish demand. Catfish farming is divided to three sector which are: seeding, nurturing, and dilatation. Seeding sector hatching catfish broodstock to produce catfish seed with size varies from larvae to size 3-4 cm. Nurturing sector nurtur catfish seed from seeding sector to produce catfish size from size 3-5 cm to 7-9 cm. Catfish seed from nurturing sector will be farmed further in dilatation sector to produce consumption size catfish. Emir Fishery Industry is nurturing company based in Bandung. Established to fulfill demand in Catfish farming, company offers high quality catfish seed for dilatation farmer. Emir Fishery Industry faced problem in producing catfish seed for dilatation farmer. Founded in 2018, 5 production cycle have been ran by the company with last four production cycle failed to produce harvest result that match with production target. Failure to produce according to production target has caused company financial losses and stop its production . This research is aimed to planning solution to problem in company production, Emir Fishery Industry will implement lean approach to its production. Lean approach was initially found by Toyota to increase efficiency and effectivity on their production. Based on waste removal action, Lean approach has been implemented in many industries and proven succesfull to improve their production.The lean approach will be used to found problem in company production and proposed solution to improve and stabilize the production After solution is found using lean approach, capital to improve production and to run company production will be seek from external funding. Company will analyze feasibility of funding to the solution using financial feasibility analysis. The analysis will be used to asses company cashflow capability in response to funding and its interest rate.
