In the last decade, Indonesia has become one of “the unskilled” migrant workers
country of origin. The issue of migrant domestic workers related to their
competence and protection. On the other side, human trafficking - men and
women, adults and children - have evolved somewhat in scope and magnitude that
it is now the focus of international initiatives, regional and national to counter
human trafficking.
This study aimed to link the process of preparing migrant domestic workers,
especially women with gender inequality and vulnerability to exploitation and
trafficking. The study used exploratory qualitative research approach by doing
data collection, analysis, and drawing conclusions based on the results of the
analysis. Data were obtained through field observations, interviews and document
research. The data obtained were analyzed using Actor-Network Theory (ANT).
The results showed a pattern of preparation and placement for confirming that
exploitation has occurred since migrant domestic workers are still in the country
and when they work for their employer. There is a gap of knowledge between
prospective migrant domestic workers and recruitment and placement actors that
made their relationship became not equitable and being subordinated by
recruitment and placement actors. |
