Description
Summary:Consolidation theory is commonly applied on saturated soil that associated with porous media layers below groundwater table. The actual condition shows that consolidation phenomenon is also prevalent on unsaturated soil. Overburden on consolidation process causing air to dissipate earlier than water, because air compressibility value is higher than water compressibility value. Air dissipation occurs gradually, causing air to come out from unsaturated soil condition that gradually become saturated. When the saturated condition is achieved, then subsequent water dissipation will occur in saturated condition, or commonly referred as saturated consolidation. The parameter that is often measured in the unsaturated soil is water content, where the water content distribution in the soil is also closely related with the infiltration process and evaporation process. The water content distribution variation in unsaturated soil causes the hydraulic conductivity values also varies based on the water content values. The hydraulic conductivity value variation has an effect on the consolidation coefficient values, where the consolidation coefficient values also varies to the hydraulic conductivity values. The variation of consolidation coefficient values occured gradually and non-linearly. Groundwater scientific developments, both in terms of engineering, science, and technology, have brought a new future in groundwater scientific novelty. In this research, Author studying a correlation between the distribution of water content on unsaturated consolidation, that is expected a preliminary formulation on nonlinear consolidation coefficient of unsaturated soil. Hopefully, this research becomes a new insights into groundwater scholarly.
