Summary: | West Lombok regency, Lombok Island, especially Nothern Sekotong waters is a tourism
region in Indonesia, which has beautiful coral reef and marine ecosystem. The coral reef
damage has been widespread in this area. Survey was done on 23 – 28 May 2016 in
colaboration with P3SDLP KKP and mapping corel reefs using Landsat 7 images on 2002
and Landsat 8 on 2002, 2014, 2015, 2016 as well as the processing of monthly sea surface
temperature data from satellites AquaModis and OI SST V2 and combined with daily sea
surface temperature data from satellite NOAA Coral Reef Watch indicate that coral reefs in
this are have changed 17,55% or 78,21 Ha from 455,68 Ha in 2002 to 367,47 Ha in 2016,
with degradation rate is 2,8 Ha/year on 2002 – 2014, 8,1 Ha on 2014 – 2015 and 36 Ha on
2015 – 2016. Coral reefs changes in Northen Sekotong waters are influenced by severeal
factors such as rise of sea surface temperature (SST), the high intensity of hotspot
phenomena that causing degree heat weeks (DHW) in 2016 and also because human activitiy
such as traditional mining which resulted in heavy metal waste contaminated water. |
