Summary: | Work motivation in Non-Government Organization (NGO) is different from work motivation in a government organization or business organization. This is because NGOs are organizations formed by individuals or groups that have no relationship with the government and these organizations are not oriented towards financial gain (non-profit organizations). Usually, the main motivation for someone to work is to obtain financial benefits, but it is different for NGOs worker. The main motivation of people working in NGOs is for social factors and considerations, not for making money, because NGOs is an organization with non-profit orientation and have charity characteristic.
Nowadays is the time for millennials and generation z to work. Millennials and generation z’s are the generation that have a lower social concern than the previous generation and also consider profits are measured by financial measures. The reality is that at present, in Indonesia the number of NGOs and the number of NGO members from the millennial generation continues to grow. In one day, there are 50-100 new NGOs registered at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. The results of some research that said millennials and generation z have low social care and the fact that an increasing number of millennial workers and generation z and the growing number of NGOs in Indonesia are two contradictory matters. Therefore, this research tries to identify the work motivational factors for millennials and generation z NGOs workers in Bandung. Some selected NGOs are Environment NGO, Law and Legal NGO, Child Care NGO, Health NGO, and Social Entrepreneur NGO. The five NGOs were chosen to represent their respective fields of work and each NGO was one of the largest in their fields. Data were collected through quantitative methods by using a questionnaire. The method used for this study was the factor analysis method to find the most dominant factor. The motivation factors for NGO workers are obtained from several experts and it summarized into six factors there are self-development, selfsatisfaction, humanitarian cause, social relations, work security, and financial and non-financial rewards. After doing the analysis factor process and labeling for each new factor, five new factors emerge, namely rewards and work benefit, internal orientation, development in self and society, external orientation, and self-actualization
The result of this research shows that the main factor of a person's motivation to work in an NGO is for reward and work benefits, and this different with the theories from a researcher that said that is due to social factors. The result of this research can be used by NGOs organization in Indonesia, especially in Bandung as a reference to make decision about work motivation for millennials and generation z, so in the end, they can improve the employees' performance and reduce the turnover. |
