GRAPHENE OXIDE SYNTHESIS FROM SPEARGRASS (Imperata cylindrica)

Abundance of biomass is a proof of the high biodiversity of Indonesia, it should be thoroughly explored especially inadvanced material research and technology. One of biomass that grows abundantly in Indonesia, namely Imperatacylindricaotherwise known as speargrass, has a high cellulose content. It...

One of biomass that grows abundantly in Indonesia, namely Imperatacylindricaotherwise known as speargrass, has a high cellulose content. It is potentially used as a carbon source for synthesisof advanced material, graphene. In this research, graphene oxide (GO) will be synthesized from speargrass obtained in Bandung-West Java. Speargrass processed by pyrolysis method at 660oC and 860oC, respectively with holding time for 2 and 4 hours, in order to obtain graphite. Then proceed with the modified Hummers method to get a GO. The temperature of pyrolysis is determined by the TG-DTA against the speargrass. Variations in graphite obtained were then characterized by XRD, obtained at 2? ? 26.5o, 43o and 45o which respectively assigned to(002), (100) and (001) graphite planes. The GO obtained were then characterized by XRD, obtained peak at 2? ? 10o. SEM image shows the porous surface morphology of carbon. EIS examination at frequency of 0.2 MHz to 0.015 Hz shows charge transfer resistance (Rct) of the obtained GO, up to below 19 Ohms, is pretty good compared to the Rct of the nanoporous carbon reference. text
