Description
Summary:Free radicals are atoms or groups of atoms that have one or more unpaired electrons. Free radicals can be against and bound with electron of the other molecule. Negative effect of free radical can be inhibited by antioxidant. The aims of this research were to determine IC50 of DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and IC50 ?» !??????????-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) of various leaves from three cultivars of papaya, bangkok, burung, and callina; total phenolic, flavonoid and carotenoid content; correlation of total phenolic, flavonoid and carotenoid content with their IC50 of DPPH and IC50 of ABTS scavenging activities, and correlation of two antioxidant methods in sample extracts. Extraction was conducted by reflux using different polarity solvents. Determination of IC50 of DPPH, IC50 of ABTS, total phenolic, flavonoid and carotenoid content were performed by UV-visible spectrophotometry and its correlation were ? ???±¸ ??± ???????±?í?¸?í± íðãí±?? ??ð??ð¸ ?? ®?ð?ð???????????±?í?¸ ?IC50 0.84 ± 0.06 µg/mL) was showed by ethanol extract of callina papaya leaves, while using ABTS method was given by ethanol extract of bangkok papaya leaves (IC50 1.79 ± 0.1 µg/mL). Bangkok, burung, and callina papaya leaves extract can be categorized as very strong antioxidants by DPPH method. Phenolic compounds were the major contributor in bangkok and callina papaya leaves with DPPH method. DPPH and ABTS methods gave no linear results in all of sample extracts.
