Pers., bungur, Griess, vasodilator, nitric oxide (NO), cadmium INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/45116 Cardiovascular disease is one of the disease that is a leading cause of death in Indonesia every year. One of the treatment of cardiovascular disease can be done with the use of vasodilators. Bungur leaves (Lagerstroemia speciosa [L.] Pers) is empirically known for treating cardiovascular disease, one of which is hypertension. The aims of these studies were to clarify vasodilatory effect of ethanolic extract of bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa [L.] Pers) leaves by promoting nitrogen monoxide (NO) serum in male Wistar rats. The study was conducted in male Wistar rats were grouped into five: Sodium CMC-Na FSH 0.5 % as negative group, Isosorbide Dinitrate (ISDN) at dose of 1.8 mg/kg bw, bungur leaves ethanolic extract at doses of 100 mg/kg bw, 200 mg/kg bw, and 400 mg/kg bw. NO concentration was measured from rats serum before and after oral administration of test suspension for one day and seven days. NO concentration was determined at 10, 30, 60, and 90 minutes after the oral administration. Measurement of NO level was done by using Griess reaction assay and cadmium. On the first day, bungur leaves ethanolic extract at dose of 100 and 400 mg/kg bw can increase NO concentration and gave significant difference compared to negative group (p<0.5) at 30 and 60 minutes. While ISDN at dose of 1.8 mg/kg bw and bungur leaves ethanolic extract at dose of 200 mg/kg gave significant difference compared to negative group (p<0.5) at 60 minutes. On the first day, the highest NO concentration is obtained at dose of 100 mg/kg bw (29.85 ± 10.04 µM) and at dose of 200 mg/kg bb (29.85 ± 10.03 µM). On the seventh day, bungur leaves ethanolic extract at dose of 100 mg/kg bw can increase NO concentration and gave significant difference compared to negative group (p<0.5) at 30 and 60 minutes. While the other group, ISDN and bungur leaves ethanolic extract at dose of 200 and 400 mg/kg gave significant difference compared to negative group (p<0.5) at 60 minutes. On the seventh day, the highest NO concentration is obtained at dose of 400 mg/kg bw (26.7 ± 11.46 µM). The conclusion is ethanolic extract of bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa [L.] Pers) leaves at dose of 100 mg/kg bb potency as a vasodilator with increased release of nitric oxide. text
