The cashew nut shell and apple cider vinegar have been used to decrease total cholesterol level in society, however the mechanism has not yet known. The research aims to determine the effect of n-hexane extract of cashew nut shell and apple cider vinegar (Tahesta®) against the activity of antihyperlipidemic with inhibition of cholesterol absorption method. This method used male Wistar rats were divided into seven groups, which were negative control, positive control, the reference group ezetimibe 0,9 mg/kg bw, n-hexane extract of cashew nut shell group with 250 mg/kg rat bw and 500 mg/kg rat bw, and apple cider vinegar (Tahesta®) group with 1 mL/kg rat bw and 3 mL/kg rat bw. Test animals was given PTU administration at dose of 9 mg/kg rat bw orally for 7 days then the animals were fasted. At day 8, rats were treated based on their group and after one hour of treatment, all the rats received 400 mg/kg rat bw of exogenous cholesterol. The parameters measured in this study was total cholesterol levels in the blood which was taken at hour 0, 1, and 2 after cholesterol administration, and total cholesterol levels in the feces which was collected within 6 and 24 hours after induction of exogenous cholesterol. All data were analyzed by one way ANOVA. The results showed that ezetimibe at dose of 0.9 mg/kg rat bw inhibited the increased total cholesterol in blood one hour after induction significantly (14%) compared to positive control and increased the total cholesterol excretion in feces (82.63%) which was collected within 24 hours after cholesterol induction significantly compared to positive control. N-hexane extract of cashew nut shell group at dose of 250 mg/kg rat bw and 500 mg/kg rat bw, and 1 mL/kg rat bw of apple cider vinegar inhibited increased total cholesterol level in the blood one hour after the induction significantly towards positive control, which were 30.24%, 34.14%, 24.4%, respectively. However, only extract at dose of 500 mg/kg rat bw can increase the total cholesterol excretion in 24 hours feces collectioned (68.64%) significantly compared to positive control. In conclusion, the n-hexane extract of cashew nut shell test, extract at dose of 500 mg/kg has an antihyperlipidemic effect by inhibiting cholesterol absorption, which is equal to ezetimibe at dose of 0.9 mg/kg rat bw. text
