Description
Summary:Background and objective : Herbal drugs are increasingly used by community for the purpose of health care, prevention and disease treatment. Jamu for hyperuricemia treatment is one of the products that growing both its quantity and composition. Hence, it is necessary to do the quality assurance of the products. Nowadays, the quality assurance is only conducted on the stage of its safety and quality in general. The objectives of this study were to test the consistency of the composition of the constituent materials in jamu for hyperuricemia treatment using a valid method as alternative for quality control testing. Method: The extraction was done using methanol with sonication. Each extract solution was observed by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to determine the spot that used as marker. Furthermore, the validation was performed using TLCdensitometry. The valid method was used to evaluate the constituent compositions of jamu for hyperuricemia treatment. Results : The validation parameters evaluated were linearity, precision, recovery, robustness, Limit of Detection and Limit of Quantification in bay-leaf extract as one constituent in jamu for hyperuricemia treatment. The calibration graph was linear within the range of 50.02 –166.75 ?g/10 ?L with correlation coefficient of 0.9975. The Intra-day and Inter-day precision were 0.62% and 2.32% respectively. The Limit of Detection, Limit of Quantification and Recovery range respectively resulted as follows, 11.00 ?g/10 ?L, 36.68 ?g/10 ?L and 85.22-100.23%. Bay-leaves contained in the samples were 22.19% (90.94% of the stated value). Conclusion: The developed method was successfully applied as a quality control method to determine bay-leaves extract contained in jamu for hyperuricemia treatment.
