Description
Summary:Several studies suggest that there is a relationship between environmental friendliness and physical activity. However, several studies related to nonphysical factors, such as socio-economic characteristics towards physical activity, are still limited in developing countries. Not all pedestrian-friendly environments can motivate people to do physical activity. Thus, this research is important to see to what extent the level of environmental friendliness and socio-economic factors may affect the physical activity of the residential environment, especially in Bandung, Indonesia. This study aims to explore the driving factors of physical activity in Regol Housing. The scope of physical activity examined in this study is walking, cycling, and exercising. The method used in this research is quantitative and exploratory. This research was conducted in a pedestrian-friendly environment that was assessed based on density, connectivity, legibility, comfort, and variety. This study found that the majority of residents were less active in walking, cycling, or exercising. Even though the knowledge of physical activity of the residents was good, and the environment was quite pedestrian-friendly, but that was not comparable with the activities carried out by residents. The association analysis results show that there is a relationship between physical activity and socio-economic variables of the community including age, recent education, income, private transportation, and body mass index.
