INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/45332 Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia which development plan of Jakarta should be based on natural conditions that occurs within the premises of Jakarta. One of the most critical problem of Jakarta`s development is the high rate of rainfall rate in the rainy seasons that could inflict catastrophic disasters such as flood, whereas the huge mass of water that flow on the 13 river through Jakarta and it’s nearby area towards the Jakarta Bay. The purpose of this study is to understand what climate variability that caused most impact at Jakarta Bay by using grain size method for sediment sample. Sediment sample of this study is taken from Muara Gembong, mouth of Citarum River at Jakarta Bay. Afterwards, the sediment samples was analyzed by using Mastersizer 2000 and made time series of grain size distribution depend on sedimentation rate of taken core. Based on carbon 14C test, which done by Center of Reseach and Development of Marine Geology (PPPGL), the sedimentation rate of the core is 1.67 cm/year, that makes the observed depth of core (0 – 15 cm) has an interval age from 2001 to 2010. Grain size data verified by using sea surface temperature data from Nasa Ocean Color and precipitation rate. The verification result shows an increasing of precipitation rate near the riverbanks of Citarum River followed by the decrease of sea surface temperature and enhancement of grain size. Afterwards, the grain size analysis of sediment sample is correlated with climate variability data such as ENSO, Dipole Mode and Monsoon. The results in statistical test show that Multivariate ENSO Index, Oceanic Nino Index, Dipole Mode Index and Australian Monsoon Index have significant correlation with the change of sediment sample`s grain size. text |
