This oil is used by farmer as a primary ingredient of animal feed. The oil is distributed by small industries in Muncar to farmers throughout the territory of Indonesia. Elaidic acid is a trans fatty acid that are harmful on human health. Therefore, elaidic acids should be removed from the oil before it is used as an ingredient. The Oil, besides containing trans fatty acid, also contain EPA dan DHA that is a fatty acid that important for health. Therefore, this research was done with aims to produce oil fraction rich in EPA and DHA but low of trans fatty acids. Based on GC-MS analysis, the oil contain elaidic acid (tFA) 47.89%, saturated fatty acids (SFA) 28.05%, EPA 6.46% and DHA 4.72%. Oil is then neutralized, continued with fractionation using three techniques of crystallization, namely urea complexation, crystallization with solvent of aseton and n heksane. The urea complexation technique produced a lowest yield (22.6%), crystallization technique with acetone produced yield 47.09%, and with n hexane produced the greatest yield (59.81%). The result of GC analysis showed that urea complexation technique produced the most rich fraction of EPA that was EPA 26.5% and DHA 17.39%. The best ratio value between tFA : total of EPA and DHA is resulted by urea complexation technique (0.72), crystallization with acetone resulted ratio 6.62 and crystallization with n hexane resulted ratio 6.56. In addition, urea complexation technique also resulted the lowest ratio between SFA : total of EPA and DHA that is 0.049, aseton crystallization technique resulted 4,169, and n heksane crystallization technique resulted 3,995. This research concluded that the fraction that was rich of EPA and DHA but low in tFA and SFA had been resulted by urea complexation technique, however the yield of the fraction from this technique was low. text |
