This study aimed to study the effect of the formation of solid dispersions using HPMC and SLS as a matrix and to study the effect of different methods used in the formation of solid dispersion to increased dissolution rate of valsartan. Solid dispersion made by using spray dry and kneading methods. Dissolusion studies of valsartan, physical mixture and solid dispersion were carried out by using type II apparatus and stirred at 50 rpm for 60 minutes in medium pH 1.2; pH 4.5; and water. The samples were analyzed using spectrophotometry UV at 248 nm. Characterization using IR spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X ray diffractometer (XRD). Dissolution rate of valsartan in spray dry method influenced by the use of HPMC,the best formula is valsartan-HPMC 1: 2 with amount of dissolved valsartan 62% (10 times higher than pure valsartan) in medium pH 1.2; 101.8% (2.8 times higher than pure valsartan) in medium pH 4.5; 94% (5 times higher than pure valsartan) in medium distilled water. As for the kneading method, an increase in the amount of HPMC increases the rate of dissolution, the best formula is valsartan-HPMC 1:3 with amount of dissolved valsartan 87% (13.8 times higher than pure valsartan) in medium pH 1.2; 87% (2.4 times higher than pure valsartan) in medium pH 4.5; 103.7% (6 times higher than pure valsartan) in water medium. A better method for the manufacture of solid dispersions of valsartan is kneading. text
