Overweight or obesity is one health problem that the prevalence is increasing from year to year, especially in developing countries. This problem can promote cardiovascular risk diseases such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, and diabetes melitus. Madeiravine (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) leaves used by the public as one of the natural drug to overcome obesity. In the previous study, madeiravine leaves showed antiobesity effect on obese wistar rats induced high-fat diet. This study aims to determine the antiobesity effect of ethanol extract of madeiravine leaves in obese rats induced by high-carbohydrate diet. Antiobesity test performed in vivo assay toward male Wistar rats for 14 days, they were divided into five groups consisted of the negative control group, positive control group, the ethanol extract of madeiravine leaves at dose of 50 mg/kg bw group, the ethanol extract of madeiravine leaves at dose of 100 mg/kg bw, and the Orlistat group dose 21,6 mg/kg bw. All groups except the negative control group was induced by high-carbohydrate diet for 30 days before. The measurement parameters include the daily percentage of the weight gain, the percentage of the food index, urine index, and feces index were observed on the last day of testing. Madeiravine (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) leaves ethanol extract at dose of 100 mg/kg bw showed significant differences compared to positive control group of the results of the percentage of the weight gain parameter measurements with a difference of 16.14% and urine index difference of 27,99%. The observation of stool consistency of test extract group showed more soft and shiny comparable with orlistat group. The percentage of the food index and feces index did not differ significantly among all groups of tests, but the feces index of madeiravine leaves ethanol extract at dose of 100 mg / kg bw showed higher yields compared with other test groups. Ethanol extract of madeiravine leaves at a dose of 100 mg/kg bw had potency as an antiobesity agent by pressing the weight gain in rats induced by high-carbohydrate diet. The group that were given madeiravine leaves ethanol extract showed increased in urine volume and stool consistency showed more soft and shiny, but they did not affect the appetite.
