In the water filtering process, flux holds one of the important factors to determine
the quality. The flux of the water filter membrane can be measured by measuring
the amount of water through the area membrane in a unit of time. The dead-end
method is one of the simplest methods in determining the number the flux of a
membrane. The process of determining the flux is by flowed a quantity of water
through the membrane on perpendicular over the membrane area. By combining
this process with an electrical component with high accuracy and the controlled
system will produce more accurate data to determine the quality of the membrane
in the water filtering process also in the clogging mechanism of the membrane in
the particulate water test. This article will discuss the result of the filtering quality
test using the combination of the dead-end method with the high accuracy and
controlled electrical system in the water filter process and the analysis of the
clogging mechanism of the membrane from the flux data in a unit of time. The
system that has been built shown good results in the calibration process of the air
pressure regulator and the sensor with a linear regression value over 0.9991 with
the highest value of 1 on the calibration of the mass sensor. This system has the
greatest accuracy with an error Full-scale of 0,35% against load-cell comparisons
with calibrated digital scales and a minimum mass that can be detected at 0,03
grams with the most stable value over 0.5gram. In testing process this system
shown the differences of the flux in various membranes (PTFE Membrane Filter
Test (IHPF, IPF) Wathman Glass Fiber Membrane) as well as the influence of
pore size, porosity, membrane type, membrane thickness on its effect on the
increase in the value of the water pressure being flowed and the clogging
mechanism of antacid particles (Mylanta). |
