Temperature profiles obtained from Argo data in 2003-2017 were used to calculate OHC in the West Tropical Indian Ocean (SHB) and East Tropical Indian Ocean (SHT) with the same domain in the IOD index calculation. OHC index is calculated based on the difference of OHC anomalies in SHB and SHT. The relationship of the OHC index with the IOD index shows a less close relationship in the 2003-2017 period which the correlation is 0.44. The OHC index can identify negative IOD events and positive IOD events, whereas NINO 3.4 not all events can be identified with the OHC index except in 2006, 2010, 2015 and 2016 where IOD events coincide with El Nino / La Nina events. The correlation of the OHC index with the IOD index when IOD events begin at the onset of IOD in May until the end of the IOD period in December will increase to 0.76. The influence of zonal wind on OHC is also quite strong during the IOD events which the correlation between the OHC index with the zonal wind anomaly at the equator is -0.75. This shows that the strengthening of the easterly wind will increases (decreases) OHC anomalies in SHT (SHB). text |
