In logistics and distribution terms, transportation has been of main interest. However, transportation entity has never increased value added to product. Based on that situation, it is necessary think hard to minimize transportation activities. The action plan requires to re-engineering transportation network pattern, so the transportation\'s cost con be minimized. <br /> <br /> The applied transportation network affects the business strategy and operational planning for postal package services. Hence, the task is to choose which one of the network pattern that can be applied and have economics advantages. These are four basic networks pattern such as (1) Mesh Network, (2) Star Network, (3) Loop Network, and (4) Ladder Network. Each kind of network has weakness and strengths, so we have to make a decision to take one of the best among the four kind of the networks. <br /> <br /> One of the effective approaches is to establish the postal package transportation network based on the characteristics of The Goods Movement Pattern This research attempts to choose the economical network under several criteria, such as: (1) movement of goods volume, (2) center of zone, (3) total loaded truck trips, (4) total unloaded truck trips, (5) distortion effects, (6) re-route travelling, and (7) UN and necessary transit terminals. <br /> <br /> After examining the performance of network patterns resulted from calculations the best postal packages network (in economics term) at DKI Jakarta a West Java was Mesh Network. If there were any change in either Center of Zone or Good Movement Volume in large scale, the best and effective network (in economic term) is Loop Network with multiple rings. <br /> <br /> For implementation, it is better to take further analysis at many sectors, such as: (1) total transportation cost, (2) total delivery time, (3) network accessibility, (4) service level, and (5) technology of transportation mode. Thus for the best network can be selected based on multi criteria decision making. The selected network we can be enriched by adding for different zone with wide geographical point of view, so it can produce the integrated postal packages transportation network pattern for Indonesia region. text
