An architectural work is not sufficiently considered as a building that efficient with best at economical and technical aspect, but an architectural work must be able to be a cultural product of a civilization meaning to be able to speak with space and form, with lines and plane, with materials and the atmosphere of the place (Mangunwijaya, 1995). Therefore, the thesis takes a case study design of the Jami Nurul Hasanah Mosque and its Supporting Facilities in Palu City. This thesis seeks earthquake-resistant architecture criteria by considering architectural works as an object through an architectural tectonic approach. The earthquake-resistant approach is specifically in term of architectural perspective not guiding to structural calculations, design optimization or structural processes but rather to the morphological response and spatial configurations of the building (Giuliani, 2000), while a variety of ways closely related to structural design, the art of constructing and joining components and materiality appearance represent the architectural tectonic approach in this thesis. This thesis concludes that when designing in earthquake-prone areas, structural consideration becomes a must from the beginning of the design process to integrate structural constraints into architectural aspects. Intuitively, building structures can be explored and designed with non-conventional form and makes core form becoming artform so that the design derives its aesthetic value from structural stability and the exploration of its elements such as its joints. The design of these various elements works as its functions also provide added value to both aesthetically and philosophically. In the end, the aesthetic is honest and not decorative. text |

Indonesia has a high risk of earthquake threats. In response to this issue, experts
and government develop various guidelines and technologies to drain the risk
factors. On the other hand, following these references without involving the
architecture creative thinking process, indirectly and slowly will decline the values
of the architectural works. An architectural work is not sufficiently considered as a
building that efficient with best at economical and technical aspect, but an
architectural work must be able to be a cultural product of a civilization meaning
to be able to speak with space and form, with lines and plane, with materials and
the atmosphere of the place (Mangunwijaya, 1995).
Therefore, the thesis takes a case study design of the Jami Nurul Hasanah Mosque
and its Supporting Facilities in Palu City. This thesis seeks earthquake-resistant
architecture criteria by considering architectural works as an object through an
architectural tectonic approach. The earthquake-resistant approach is specifically
in term of architectural perspective not guiding to structural calculations, design
optimization or structural processes but rather to the morphological response and
spatial configurations of the building (Giuliani, 2000), while a variety of ways
closely related to structural design, the art of constructing and joining components
and materiality appearance represent the architectural tectonic approach in this
thesis.
This thesis concludes that when designing in earthquake-prone areas, structural
consideration becomes a must from the beginning of the design process to integrate
structural constraints into architectural aspects. Intuitively, building structures can
be explored and designed with non-conventional form and makes core form
becoming artform so that the design derives its aesthetic value from structural
stability and the exploration of its elements such as its joints. The design of these
various elements works as its functions also provide added value to both
aesthetically and philosophically. In the end, the aesthetic is honest and not
decorative. |
