Description
Summary:The black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) are currtently being considered as an alternative source of protein for feed of pultry and aquaculture and in the same time apply as biological agent to manage organic waste. In this study, we construct age-stage, two-sex life tables of the black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) reared on shrimp waste. Observations were made by measuring the growth period of each stage, mortality, sex ratio, and daily fecundity. Data were collected and analyzed based on age-stage, two sex life table. The net reproduction rate (R0) and the mean length of generations (T) are 29.58 and 43.95 respectively, while for the intrinsic rate of natural increase (r) and the finite rate of increase (?), respectively 0.077 and 1.081. From this study, it can be concluded that the maintenance of Hermetia illucens using shrimp waste can support efforts to increase production, and survival of black soldier fly.
