Summary: | Abstrak
Analysis of the distribution and abundance of Gastropods in Cibeureum stream and their potential as intermediate hosts of the Helminth parasites (Trematodes) were conducted in June 1997. Collection of Gastropods and measurements of abiotic environmental factors were carried out at ten different places at each of six sampling stations (A, B, C, I), E and F). Snails were collected by Hand Picking Technique, and by using a net. The results showed that six species of snails were found in the stream, i.e., Syncera bedaliensis (Rensch); Thiara scabra (Muller); Melanoides tuberculata (Muller), Melanoides granifera (Lamarck), Lymnaea rubiginosa (Michelin) and the Physa acuta (Draparnaud). The snail distributions in the stream were in cluster. Melanoides tuberculata (Miller) was the highest distribution species of snails in the stream, followed by Thiara scabra (Muller), Lymnaea rubiginosa (Michelin), Physa acuta (Draparnaud), Melanoides granifera (Lamarck) and Syncera bedaliensis (Rensch). The highest abundance species of snails in the stream was Physa acuta (Draparnaud), followed by Thiara scabra (Miller); Melanoides tuberculata (Miller); Lymnaea rubiginosa (Michelin), Melanoides granifera (T .amarck) and Syncera bedaliensis (Rensch). One type of cercariae of Trematodes parasite was found in this snail, i.e., monostome cercariae. The monostome cercariae was found in Physa acuta (Draparnaud) at station C. It infected snail with 6.00mm to 9.47 mm in length of shell. Physa acuta (Draparnaud) was the most potential snail as intermediate host for Helminth parasites with prevalence of 8,47%. |
