Carbon monoxide (CO) is the gaseous pollutant produced from natural and human activities. The effects of CO on health of the human, because of CO displaced oxygen from haemoglobin to produce carboxy haemoglobin. Biofiltration technique has been developed to deal with removing of CO gas. The biofilter performance is the role of predominant microorganisme as specially as microfungi in the CO gas removal biodegradation process. Research by Inman and Ingersoll (1971) have isolated the microfungi which can remove CO gas in the soil sample, consist of genera Aspergillus, Penicillium, Mortierella, Mucor and Haplosporium. Laboratory scale experiment was carried out, using two kinds of growth supporting media, compost from Leuwi Gajah and top soil andosol from Lembang . At certain loading rate, microorganime samples were taken and were then identified. The results show that genus Aspergillus was the microfungi predominant both two media were observed. Besides, removal effiency CO gas of compost from Leuwi Gajah better than top soil andosol from Lembang. |
