Various methods are used to reduce the impact of NOx. One way to reduce the impact of premixed combustion is to shorten the ignition delay. The ignition delay is influenced by physical factors and chemical factors. This undergraduate assignment discusses these factors on Diesel engine performance, i.e. the ignition delay and engine performance. The discussion was conducted with a simulation of Diesel engine combustion. The simulation is done by varying the time of fuel injection and the fuel cetane number on three Diesel engines with different compression ratios and rotational speeds. The results of the simulation show that the shortest ignition delay is obtained at one injection timing and with the highest cetane. The injection timing will get closer to the top dead point as the rotational speed decreases and the compression ratio increases. The same phenomenon also results from the effect of injection time on the power and torque of the shaft in each model. Meanwhile, the effect of fuel cetane number on torque is very dependent on the injection timing and engine rotational speed. text |

Nitrous oxide (NOx) is one of the gases produced by combustion in a Diesel engine.
The gas can cause environmental damage such as acid rain and smog. Research on NOx
formation shows that these pollutants are formed during the premixed combustion. This
combustion occurs quickly and suddenly, causing a very significant rise in temperature and
combustion chamber pressure. This triggers NOx pollutants to form. Various methods are
used to reduce the impact of NOx. One way to reduce the impact of premixed combustion
is to shorten the ignition delay.
