Description
Summary:Stroke is a brain’s blood flow disorder caused by thrombus, embolus, or cerebrovascular haemorrhage leading to cerebral infark. Stroke is the third leading cause of death after heart disease and all cancers, and also the leading cause of disability. Perhimpunan Rumah Sakit Indonesia (PERSI) in 2009 stated that the first cause of death by stroke at hospitals was 15%. According to World Health Organization (WHO) in 2002, 5.7 million people died due to stroke each year and keep increasing to 6.7 million each year by 2015. Hypertension is one of the most common and primary risk factor for stroke. The objective of this research was to analyze drug related problems of the use of antihypertensive drugs given to hospitalized stroke patient in one of private hospital in Bandung. This research was descriptive analysis –observational done retrospectively by collecting data of antihypertensive drugs and other drugs which were provided in the hospital, and from medical record of hospitalized stroke patient in period of September till December 2012 dan 2013. Based on the amount of evaluated stroke patient (140 people), most of them were increasingly better (82.86%). 95,71% of the patients gave a positive response to the antihypertensive drugs. 53.57% of the patients used antihypertensive drugs in combination (combination of Calcium Channel Blocker/CCB and Angiotensin Receptor Blocker/ARB was the most) and 46.43% of the patients used single therapy of antihypertensive drugs (CCB was the most). Other drugs used for stroke treatment were acetylsalysilic acid (31.43%), clopidogrel (17.86%), and piracetam (34.29%). There was no inappropriate indication of the drug use. There was inappropriate dose of drugs (2.14%) and also potential drug interactions (5% major drug interaction and 10% moderate drug interaction). According to this research, the use of antihypertensive drugs on stroke patient in the hospital was principally appropriate. Meanwhile, there were inappropiate dose of drugs and potential drug interactions.
