Static and Dynamic Characteristic Analysis of Okuma-Howa ACT 3 CNC Lathe Machine

Okuma-Howa ACT 3 is a CNC lathe machine which has used slant bed construction with one of the advantage of having a better stiffness against bending and torsion load so the deflection during machining process can be minimal. This stiffness is divided into static and dynamic stiffness. Static stiffne...

This stiffness is divided into static and dynamic stiffness. Static stiffness is one of the static characteristic of machine tool structure which considers deflection value occurred on the machine structure from static load from the weight of the machine itself. Dynamic stiffness is one of the dynamic characteristic caused by dynamic load during machining process. To know the static and dynamic characteristic, simulation will be done using the finite element method with the help of ANSYS program. Finite element method is used to solve numerical problem in this research to acquire structure stiffness by dividing the 3D shape of the structure to smaller elements with a finite amount. The value of the deflection, natural frequency, and frequency response function from the structure are acquired through simulation. The result of the static simulation of the Okuma-Howa ACT 3 construction model shows that there is a deflection which caused a difference in concentricity on the tip of the spindle and the tailstock of 1,3 ?m on the Y-axis direction and 0,3 ?m on the Z-axis direction. Meanwhile the result of the dynamic simulation shows frequency response function graphic where the Okuma-Howa ACT 3 machine has the largest dynamic compliance on the first mode shape on the X-axis and the Z-axis with the frequency value of 58,705 Hz and on the second mode shape on the Y-axis with the frequency value of 112,51 Hz. text
