Summary: | Surface plasmon is an electromagnetic wave that propagates at the interface of dielec-
tric and conductor while also decaying in the direction perpendicular to the interface.
The resonance phenomenon happens when the oscillation frequency of conductor's
free electrons equals the frequency of the light wave. In this case, the energy at
the conductor surface increases while being contained at the surface. Hence, the
absorbance value also increases, for absorbance describes the capability of matter
to absorb electromagnetic waves. In this Final Project, the eect of temperature on
the surface plasmon resonance frequency will be studied. The system under consid-
eration is a composite system of spherical metal nanoparticle in a low concentration
solution. In this Final Project, quasi-static approach will be used, since the size of
the spherical composite nanoparticle is much smaller than the incident wavelength.
Polarizability of this composite system can be determined by obtaining the electric
eld. From this polarizability, we can obtain the absorbance which is a value that
can be measured from the experiment. |
